When this family moved into their new home, they were dealing with a large flower bed that had become an overgrown mess. Weeds had taken over a space crowded with daylily and irises planted randomly. Flowers only bloomed in the spring, leaving no interest during other seasons. There were bare patches under mature hemlock and maple trees in the front where grass would not grow.
The homeowner requested a tidier, more formal look with big bright blooms. I removed weeds and the majority of the bulbs. Native pachysandra and bluebells were planted to grow in as a ground cover. A rich selection of perennial ferns, roses, and peonies are complimented by large white ceramic pots that can be filled each year with annuals to provide variety. Annual sunflowers, inpatiens, and mums were planted to fill space while the ground grows in next year.
